News previously investigated, they are the product of pranksters at the Global Associated News, a macabre site behind a rash of similar hoaxes—whether it was falling off a cliff in New Zealand (the purported fate of poor Jeff Goldbum) or the ill-timed mishaps in the Swiss and Austrian Alps that supposedly took the lives of Adam Sandler, Charlie Sheen, Ryan Gosling and, yes, the Trading Places star on two prior occasions (see here and here).

Alas, the only death Murphy's had to deal with these days was the awful demise of his latest comedy, A Thousand Words, at the box office, which has grossed a paltry $18 million since hitting theaters in March.
